The Miscalculation

j-kep Nothing but pure relentless brutality and scorching technical prowess that crackles out of the speakers. It’s unflinchingly aggressive, like being in the center of a vortex of razors, whipping licks and arpeggios jagged and violent, ripping and slicing from all angles. Favorite track: Indoctrination (feat. Keith Merrow).

catwizard The drums on this album just rule. Great melodic solos and varied DM vocals. Favorite track: Ubiquitous.
Lloyd James

Lloyd James A absolute feast of pummelling tech death, The Miscalculation grabs you by the throat from the start and drags you through the dirt until Keith Merrow's massive dirgey outro in Indoctrination finally releases you to take stock of what remains of your battered body. Favorite track: Indoctrination (feat. Keith Merrow).
Kris Faust

Kris Faust Last year The Eating Cave gave us a concussion with their debut LP, but nothing could prepare us for the beast that is The Miscalculation. The band is on another level entirely, like a vicious AI that has reached Singularity. Brutal, technical, beautiful.

Kirk Gauthier I’m not a death metal lover, but I’m also not a death metal hater. If I had to give my temperament when it comes to death metal, I’m pretty ambivalent. And so, be that as it may, I just wanna say this album FUCKS. I wasn’t a huge fan of The Eating Cave’s first album, but this isn’t just a leap in execution, this is an intercontinental divide. Every ounce of this record is enough to get your blood pumping and your heart pounding. It’s brutal. It’s intense. It begs—no, DEMANDS—to be heard. Favorite track: Indoctrination (feat. Keith Merrow).

Eternal Nightmare Can’t wait til this comes out, The eating cave is hands down some of the best Tech Death I’ve ever heard 🤘🏻😈🔥

Ubiquitous 04:58
Congregating on the surface Flourishing and satisfied Mere centuries separating eras of agriculture and cold fusion propulsion The chain reaction of revelations Exponentially we progressed Grandchildren of the bucolic now inhabiting the moon Ceremoniously embracing the plight of Icarus While we marinate in our own self-indulgent fantasies Obtuse labyrinths sprawl atop the thin crust of our planet Over-extending into the sands of Luna Extracting fuel from deep beneath As if our resources were limitless This renaissance will not stand We have awakened something sinister The substrates of our error strewn in ruin Mocking history as we build our spires Laying foundations upon their graves. Unintentionally calling into the void of space While the true horrors have already encapsulated us. A terrarium on the shelf of nefarious gods Existing in some dark symbiosis The time of ungracious tenancy has run it’s course This ignorant presence is no longer welcome The keepers have come to collect
2.
The facade has begun to deteriorate Centuries of research condensed into code All for naught as the data is corrupted Fed from birth the tales of our creation Painted images of the oasis we inhabit Confident of our own autonomy Freewill, the foundation of our construction We were most grossly deceived The bonds of our oppressors lay dormant Intangible and unassuming Sedated & content in our unapparent bondage And from our contention came complacency This laboratory was built as an act of hubris A vulgar blasphemy in the face of discovery A Tower of Babel in these modern times How naive our pursuit of understanding Flying in treacherous proximity to the sun Our wings of wax now melted as we plunge Further from the enlightenment we sought The answers we yearned for were replaced By revelations in the latter days of the collider This was a mistake in experimentation There is bliss and comfort in ignorance Childlike, our desire for understanding Noble, our quest for information Cosmic self-awareness is grossly overvalued Our heads now violently pulled from the sand This is not a portal that we have discovered The blinders were just removed from our eyes We stared for what lay beyond the horizon When the greatest secrets were peripheral
3.
Implications 03:51
We can no longer answer earnestly The questions of our experience All of human progress has been a charade Calculating nonsense while running in place To say that we had our suspicions Would come from a place of embarrassment The legacies of our greatest thinkers Reduced to incoherence in nanoseconds This was not first contact There was no cosmically foreign visitation Our species cultivated for our foolhardiness So easily deceived by our primitive senses Stubbornly searching the cosmos for answers Wholly ignorant to our enslavement Blind to the chemical chains that bind us Self-aggrandizing and unaware of the mirage Prosperity merely a figment of fantasy Destitute in opulence Millennia elapsing solely in simulation We have been bred like bacteria Cultured to perform and divide Our gods and heroes, apparitions Chemical catalysts suspended in Agar Our mathematics, delusions in a feverish haze For there is no understanding And there will be no revelation We are the rodents of this experiment And have been underestimated The livestock grazing in unison Awaiting the caress of the bolt on our skulls This was never meant to be know But our blindfolds wavered momentarily With the collision of two particles.
4.
The beings have become savvy To our newly minted awareness The full potential of our capabilities Becoming clearer in the waning anesthesia They have had us incapacitated Suspended and inanimate Bound by chemistry at the level of neurons As our eyelids recline to reveal our captivity Evolution accelerates to accommodate Our abilities untethered and exposed Rapidly enhanced by our sharpened perception To think that we have been relegated to working the lands of our masters When we too possess some seraphic abilities It’s ironic to consider that our eons of progression pale in comparison to reality Striving towards discovery retroactively While already possessing empyrean capacities Voyaging toward the heavens Locked by our captors at the belly of the sea The immortal creatures that keep us do not fit our frail definition of life Omnipotent representations of mathematical harmony Our godlike masters drifting in the depths Tending to their herds But we are awake.
5.
Warfare 04:41
Released from our fixative compounds and having attained singularity To call us an organism would be too simple an abstraction Lives networked in unison narrowly focused on our prerogative Many receptors of a complex nervous system Redefining what we know to be sentience Is this an evil that holds us incarcerated Humanity distilled into a pathogenic virus Incubating in the bloodstream of the gods Synaptic weaponry manufactured in entropy Bearing heavy arms in our metaphysical revolt This will be an exercise in futility We shall be lemmings plunging into the rocks These forces that have shackled us to simplicity have made it so They intend to eradicate with extreme prejudice They know that we have begun to understand And our convenience is usurped by their need for immaculacy An uprising from the hogs Resisting against the slaughterhouse blade There exists an absolute power in our calculation And it has us firmly ensnared by throat Our blasphemy will remain unforgivable Returned to purgatory under the crushing depths of the ocean Sinister intentions held down by the unrelenting pressure Regaining our consciousness collectively Blistered and broken by the waves Teeth and nails scraping at the enamel of our resilience. Air escaping lungs leagues beneath the surface No form of violence could withstand this assault We must comply or be exterminated Cowering like insects in the light.
6.
Acceptance 05:41
Overwhelmed and outnumbered. Forced back to the pits from which we spawned. There is no honor in this defeat. A higher intelligence holds us tethered in slavery. Domesticated by an indifferent oppressor. Lashed to forces that cradle our minds in bondage. Prisoners bound in corsets of feeble flesh. The simple-minded never strayed far from fantasy. Content with their middling existence. Scavengers blindly skittering on the surface. Drifting involuntarily on the currents. Vestigial structures in the machine exposed. Our brightest minds now churn with manic desperation. Condemned to toil in perpetuity. An abstract of humanity written in blood. This is the end of adaptation. Reading our last rites of individuality Harvested for the power of our flesh. The gears will continue to turn. Rotating inside the heart of the machine. Collectively parasitized and incarcerated. Life marches forward in twisted symbiosis. Swallowed by the darkest of forces. Bathing in the notion of this corrosive future No longer struggling against the tide.
7.
Ceasing the revolution. Returned to sedated serenity. A titanic fall from the throne of conquest To the smallest particles of the organism. No longer flailing involuntarily from reflex. An unexpected calm in the face of calamity. Soothed by this newfound perspective. Gently inhaling the fumes of convalescence Adrenaline fading in the arms of submission. Transfixed on the colored plumes. Entranced in this chemical hypnosis. Catatonic, we spiral on a flume of viscera. Methodically wandering into the black. Kaleidoscopic visions replace ambition. Drones circling the epicenter of control. The beams of energy that feed their vessel Fracture the earth as they project to the heavens. The terrain rippling with seismic activity Mountains crumbling into the molten core. Still we fixate on the assimilation. The warmth of our bodies fueling the aggressor. Seduced by the simple compounds we require to exist. Sustained in perpetual anesthesia. Stewing in the odors of our medicated atmosphere. Further Intoxicated with every breath. Again seduced by this fiendish illusion. Still bound to imperfection. How grave our miscalculation.
